Myanmar Cave Documentation Project

 

 

Expedition Members International & Myanmar

The core members are organized within the Swiss Society for Speleology (SGH) and the British Cave Research Association (BCRA). The project integrates cavers with special expertise to foster multidisciplinary approaches and intercultural cooperation.

 

Joerg Dreybrodt

Founder & Main Project Coordinator - Physicist - Switzerland

Foundation of the project in 2009 after leading in Laos a similar project since 2001. Caving since childhood. Focus on Karst Areas in Asia after living for several years in China, Japan and Taiwan.  Specialist in survey, mapping techniques and publications. Chair of the working group “Sustainable Development” of the German Speleological Federation. Member of the IUCN/WCPA GSG Cave and Karst Working Group.

Urs Etter

Expedition Leader - Rope and vertical expert – Civil Engineer - Switzerland

Former President of the Swiss Speleogical Society Bern. Caving experience since 30 years in Switzerland, Indonesia, Oman and Laos. Specialist in rope safety and vertical techniques. Civil Engineer for infrastructure at Swiss Railways.

Peter Talling

Expedition Leader & Coordinator - Geologist - UK

Leading several expeditions to the Taunggyi and Ywangan region in Myanmar. Professor for Earth Science at Durham University. His specialty are expeditions to remote karst areas around the world like China, Kyrgyzstan and Timor Este.

Fleur Loveridge

Co-Expedition leader - Civil Engineer - UK

Dedicated cave explorations at home in the UK as in other parts of the world. Member of the Hongmeigui Project in China. Maintaining of log book and records with contributions to project publications. Fellow researcher at the University of Leeds.

Roman Hapka

Specialist in Environmental Policies and Documentation - Archeologist - Switzerland

Former Adjacent Secretary of the World Caving Union UIS. Caving experience since 40 years in Switzerland, Mexico, Columbia and China. Groundbreaking speleological documentation in new karst regions in Columbia. Environmental Specialist at the NGO for Nature Preservation in Switzerland.

Diego Sanz

Cave instructor and rescue specialist - Civil Engineer - Switzerland

Certified instructor for cave education in the Swiss Speleological Society. Leading explorer of the Sieben Hengste System in Switzerland (currently 157 km length, 1340 m depth). Cave expeditions to several countries. Specialist in vertical caving and aided climbing.

Groundwater Specialist - Photography & Marketing - Switzerland

Geochemist with specialization in groundwater dating. Publication of geological environmental books about local landscapes as professional photographer. Cave explorations in Namibia, Switzerland and Spain

Map Expert – IT Specialist - Switzerland

Architect - Switzerland

Imogen Furlong

Expedition leader – Outdoor Instructor - UK

Imo led the first expeditions to the Shan plateau. She is dedicated to cave explorations at home in the UK as in other parts of the world. Member of the Hongmeigui Project in China. Her recent project is to integrate families with young children in expeditions and develop a family expedition methodology.

Vertical Specialist - Physicist - UK

Long term participation in several international expeditions to Austria, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Peru, Spain and other countries. Member of the Hongmeigui Project in China. Specialist in rigging techniques and descending challenging shafts. Group leader at the University of Oxford in particle physics.
